Resident Scholar and former teacher, Velma Skott Teeple, was born and raised in the small picturesque town of Buckhorn about 8 miles west of Maquoketa, Iowa. She writes with charm and wit of life in this small Iowa farming community (where was found a school, a church, and a bustling creamery) from 1835 when the first cabin was built until the present time (2004). Velma brings Buckhorn to life, allowing the reader to vicariously experience the community.
